if tweakui is supposed to also remove it from the tree then there's a bug in my machine. i reticked/unticked "my computer icons" in tweakui and it makes cp show up in the files/right pane but it doesn't reflect in folder/tree/left view.
does that work differently for you?
my machine is legit xp sp3, tweakui v2.10.

hi!
kudos for your site! excellent hacks, great tips. thank you also for pointing the way to some excellent freeware, some i already knew, others i'm sure i'll love,all of them lost recently on a freak murphy's-law-timed disc failure.
question: how to remove control panel from the folders pane/tree view in windows explorer? searched the web, combed through the registry but cannot find neither the answer nor an indication that it's not possible. may be necessary to hack explorer.exe?

font size was originally 58, try 55 or 51 or something else. the lower the value the bigger the font.
about the color: unfortunately it is not that easy. :( will see that later.

looking good des :) however i have some questions: first the font of the status, 5e is too small for me, i played around a bit with the values but can't figure anything that would fit, what would be the next font size of 5e? and what will be 2 points bigger?
and about the color of the progress bar, what would be the value of this color #20bac2?

beta version because it has a little bug with the positioning thing. (i hope i can fix it later) i also changed the status text font to ms shell dlg (size 8). (it means your system font will be used there) but if you want to change the font: it is at offset 3600b8, and the font size is at offset 3600ee. (now it is 5e)
the status bar size is in the 10022 dialog. don't set its height to more than 14 because you will experience a little bug.
at offset a6462 the 3a means the color of the progressbar or seekbar. now it is brown-red or something. e1 = red, f2 green, f5 = brown, 0a = blue1, 0b = blue2, 90 = olive, 40 = white, ff = black...

well, there are plenty of hex values that have to be altered, so i will rather upload the hacked version of the latest mpc version. (6.4.9.0.) of course later then i will publish the hex offsets and all things to do if you want to do some modifications. :)
i've tried to remove the volume control's 3d colors, but no success yet. maybe later.

another idea:
in your visualstyle there are these colors:
edgedkshadowcolor, edgefillcolor, edgehighlightcolor, edgelightcolor, edgeshadowcolor
these colros are also responsible for the 3d colors. by editing them, you can eliminate the 3d stuff. afaik.

in your visualstyle there must be something somewhere in toolbar section in bitmaps or in the text code. like:
bgtype = borderfill
bordersize = 1
fillcolor = 214 215 210
textcolor = 128 128 128
my next tip would be editing the shellstyle, but i noticed you dont use shellstyle.
in shell style you can edit the border around the explorer folder view, add margins and more...
about the explorer.exe.manifest:
it does changes but these changes are not conspicuous in case of the explorer.exe. i mean you can see it when you try to delete a shell folder from my computer or in some other cases. even when using a vs normally the dialog button isn't skinned, it has the classic look with 3d borders, but after using the manifest you can see the button skinned like the others in the system. or you can try it with some old programs that look much more like with the classic theme even if you are using a visualstyle. (buttons and controlls are not skinned, etc) in that case the manifest file do the trick.
here is a good example:
http://raymond.cc/images/errordelete.png
the caption (title) skinned but not the button. with the manifest the button will be skinned too.
if you can't find the reason what casues the 3d border in your explorer window, you can send me (upload somewher the style. i.e: sendspace.com) and i will take a look at it. :)
it is not problem at all. i am obsessed with reshacking and customizing. :)

i read through my msg one more time and i found it to be a little unclear, so ill add this picture so it is clear what 3d-border (or effekt) im talking about.
pic:

ofc im not trying to make you solve my problem, im just wondering if you happen to know what file is causing this and if its a systemfile some tips on how to edit it.

hi, first off: i love your site, ive found some many good tweaks :)
the question:
i was wondering if it is possible to remove the 3d effekt in explorer folders.
here is a pic that illustrates it:
http://img252.imageshack.us/my.php?image=27289120yk3.jpg
(im comparing it to foobar, which doesnt have the 3d effekt. and i put in 2 of the same windows, one which i highlighted the 3d effekt with red (and 2 things in purple, but you can ignore those))
what i tried:
i found your tip in the faq about how to remove 3d borders on the classic skin, but i use a visual theme.
i found a tip to use manifest-files, but for some reason that doesnt work for me.
maybe the problem can be fixed with the visual theme, but so far i havnt found any solution.
question (again):
so i was wondering if you have any idea about how to remove it, changing the colours would be a nice change, but if possible i want to remove it completely (so it looks more like the foobar)
if you think it should be solved by using manifest-files then tell me and ill fiddle around untill i get it to work (as it is now i tried to put the manifestfile i downloaded from your site in the same folder as explorer.exe and renamed the manifestfile to explorer.exe.manifest) but it didnt change anything.

well, i did some hex-editing and came up with this. there is still a 3d border around the seekbar button but it is far more nicer than the original one.
img:
http://i33.tinypic.com/345oohx.png
i can do a lot of things such as recoloring the white trackbar, resizing the seekbar button, resizing the margins, resizing the height/width of the trackbar and seekbar button. etc.. :) i am on the right way. i hope i will find the correct hexcode to remove the border.
